The number of students studying in Azerbaijani higher education institutions has
increased by about 29% over the past 13 years. The number of students studying at
state universities in Azerbaijan is about 17 times higher than the number of students
studying at private universities. Given that the number of public universities in
Azerbaijan is three times higher than the number of private universities, this figure
can be understood.

However, the number of students studying in private higher education institutions
has been decreasing since 2005. The number of students in private school decreased
more than 33% between 2005 and 2019.
